Cool Gardens: A collection of Temporary Installations celebrates and reflects on the first five years of the Cool Gardens public exhibition. Featuring 24 captivating and engaging designs, Cool Gardens highlights contemporary garden culture and the local landscape.
Cool Gardens is a public exhibition of contemporary garden and art installations that offer a shift of sensation for the summer – cooling – as a general theme for public projects in the downtown. It brings together architects, designers, landscape architects, and artists to celebrate contemporary garden culture and the locale landscape. The presentation of these cutting-edge installations places design culture at the centre of summer activities in Winnipeg, and Brandon, while offering citizens and tourists a pleasant relief from summer exasperations. Cool Gardens takes place annually from July until the end of September.
The first five years of Cool Gardens were presented by Storefront Manitoba and The Forks. Co-curators were David Penner (2013-2017), Eduardo Aquino (2013), Sharon Wohl (2015) and Jeff Palmer (2016). Many thanks to Paul Jordan and Dave Pancoe for their invaluable contributions.
Edited by David Penner, with an introduction by Eduardo Aquino. Cool Gardens includes a preface by The Winnipeg Foundation.
